Take the Time to Take Care of You: a Mental Health Break

Mister Mocktail taking a mental health break

In a world that never seems to slow down, where our to-do lists grow longer by the day and notifications constantly ping, the idea of taking a break can sometimes feel like you are missing out on things you can be doing. Yet, now more than ever, it's crucial to recognize that stepping away and giving ourselves time to recharge isn't just beneficial—it's essential.

For a queer-owned company, June can be more than hectic than most months to say the least. Pride activities are non-stop. Promotion, running the events, figuring out what we are doing post event and making sure everything goes as planned... Then, it is on to the next month. You never really get a second to check in with your mental health to see if you are running on fumes. Finding time to balance work and personal life is super difficult. I know I am not the only one who has experienced this as a business owner, but many of us have experienced this.

As for me, I made sure not to schedule any events besides our monthly sober social in July. I felt conflicted because a part of me felt like I was not doing anything and missing out on opportunities and another part of me was very grateful to my past self for giving me a break! While it’s true that dedication and hard work are important, they don't mean much if you're running on empty. The truth is, our brains and bodies need time to recover and rejuvenate. Without this essential downtime, productivity and creativity can suffer, stress levels can rise, and overall well-being can take a hit.

Incorporating regular breaks into your life can make a world of difference, helping you to stay motivated, creative, and healthy. It’s a small act of self-care that pays off greatly, proving that sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is give yourself permission to rest.

Sober One Six certainly is not taking any breaks, we are still growing and searching for more opportunities to bring sober events to Buffalo and Western New York. We have been busy promoting our upcoming August Sober Social at Fat Bob’s on August 21st and our Rihanna Dance Party at Riff City on August 23rd. Find us at the Elmwood Artfest Show on August 25th and hosting Boys Night: a Drag King Show at Mister Goodbar on August 30th!

Check out www.soberonesix.com for all of our upcoming events and let us know what else you want to see next!
